BARRACKS AWNING

LOCATION: Brisbane City

At Clarke Constructions we put just as much passion into the smaller jobs as we do the larger. This awning entry, completed for a new tenant at the Barracks in Caxton Street turned out to be quite the interesting and complex little job. The awning was constructed with structural steel and cladded with CFC and a shadowline finish. Due to public nature of the area, the majority of the planning and fabrication was done off site. An X-ray was done over the existing concrete slab to avoid hitting any existing services and post tension cables and then a 3D render was done utilising a special camera. This gave the co-ordinates for all of the existing surfaces down to the millimetre. From there the structural steel workshop drawings were drafted along with the cutting sizes for the CFC cladding. The drawings were reviewed and then went into off site fabrication. Once all the components were completed the team installed the structural steel and cladding in one day and then painted it the following day. This job highlighted the new and exiting technologies available in the construction industry today.
