Macquarie Residence Throwback
5 February 2018
This week we are sharing a throwback to one of our biggest projects, the Macquarie Residences in Teneriffe. Clarke Constructions was approached by Hasting Street Developments in 2014 to develop one of the few Teneriffe Woolstores left standing. The top floor of this heritage listed building was turned into nine luxury apartments with the complicated construction taking place above existing residences on the lower floors. The existing scissor roof and large water tower were completely removed and exposed the existing structure to the weather. To protect the structure whilst exposed, approximately 3000m2 of the Level 4 concrete slab was covered in a waterproofing membrane as a temporary barrier while the structural steel and roofing components were completed. The new apartments comprised of 2 and 3 levels rising internally from the existing slab up into the new curved atrium roof. The existing rear access was re-configured to include a glazed private entry and large drive-in rollershutter giving the new residents internal driveway access into their individual garages inside. This project was extremely complex and was finished to the highest standard. It required the full time attention of all the staff and the end result was nothing short of spectacular, setting a new standard in luxury apartments in Queensland.
